Ventilated LV jacket

The gents of Duckie Brown were inspired by the athleticism of bike messengers this spring (which explains the ventilated jacket). Nice, very nice. This would be a great alternative to linen jackets, for people like me.

I seem to be a bit distracted by the Louis Vuitton Oxford shoes though.

Dress shirts without front pockets.

Posted in Q's & A's on July 13, 2009 by Jaiye Gesinde

Q:          More and more, I’m seeing dress shirts without front pockets. Are they more formal than shirts with two pockets, or are they just a fleeting fashion trend?

Ken Simplton.

A:          Personally, I prefer dress shirts without front pockets. I don’t like the idea of putting things in your front pocket(unless you really need that extra space), because they look bulky and in my own opinion distracts and detracts from the beauty of the shirt.

Alot of European shirtmakers don’t put pockets on their shirts, assuming you’d be wearing (a vest and) a jacket with more than enough storage space. Hermès seems to have a policy that makes a bit of sense though: Its button-downs have pockets; its spread-collar shirts don’t.

I also think dress shirts without front pockets adds alot of sleekness to your look.

Parts of your shoe you should know.

  • Apron:  A large overlay that covers the area where the toe meets the upper of the foot.

             goodyear welt

  • Goodyear Welt:  The sole and the upper of the shoe are stitched (not glued), resulting in the strongest bond in shoe making. Because of it’s construction a Goodyear welt lends it’s self to resoling many times over.
  • Heel:  The rear, padded area on the bottom of the foot, as well as the piece at the rear of the shoe that supports the heel cup. The heel should not slip on the wearer’s foot.
  • Liner:  The inside covering of the shoe. Should always be leather, since that’s what will be touching your foot.

             Quarter

  • Quarter:  The rear of the shoe, including the heel, spanning to the back side seam of the exterior.

              toe box

  • Toe Box:  The front portion of the shoes that covers the toes. Should have support protecting the toes and approximately a half inch longer than the length of the longest toe.
  • Tounge:  A strip of leather running just under the laces of the shoe all the way to the opening, or throat.

              vamp

  • Vamp:  The front part of the shoe that includes the toe box and apron.

Tom Ford’s Style Rules

  • Be confident.
  • Button your jacket. It takes 20 pounds off your silhouette.
  • Never button more than one button on a jacket.
  • Know yourself and know what you like. That’ll be your signature.
  • Americans have grown too accustomed to being comfortable. I find a different kind of comfort when I know I look good.
  • You can’t wear trendy clothes forever. Everyone has to grow up sometime.
  • That being said, Mick Jagger can wear pretty much anything he wants. It’s all about your personality.
